Bert's Cafe

Home of The Locals

Bert’s Cafe is the second oldest continually operating restaurant in Brigham City, and is still a local favorite. Albert Leroy Olsen and his wife, Kathie, opened Bert’s Cafe in 1929. Three generations later, the Olsen family still owns and operates Bert’s Cafe. They have made plenty of changes over the years, including a bar, a pool table, and even five motel rooms on the back of the cafe. They changed the name from Bert’s to Bert’s Turn Inn, Bert’s Cafe and Motel, Bert’s Cafe and, and now Bert’s Family Cafe. The motel and bar are gone now, but Bert’s is still serving all sorts of Brigham City favorites, from breakfast omelets to hot sandwiches and burgers. Many of these recipes date back to Kathie and Bert, while customers dreamt up other recipes, which the Olsens then created.

Bert Olsen III and his daughter, Britnee Roskelly, cherish the sense of community that Bert’s Cafe fosters. Bert believes the best part about running the cafe is the people, and Britnee agrees. “Half of my [wedding] guests were customers from here,” she said, “I really do love being here. I’ve known all the customers forever; it’s like my second family; home away from home… It is a lot of hard work, but it’s also going in to see family and friends.”
